5 Lakes Walk

5 Lakes Walk is a popular hiking trail located in Zermatt, Switzerland. The trail offers stunning views of the Matterhorn and five unique lakes, each offering a different perspective of the surrounding landscape. The lakes on the trail include Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee, and Leisee. The trail is well signposted, making it easy for hikers to navigate their way around.

The trail can be accessed via a cable car, which although can be considered expensive, provides breathtaking views that are well worth the cost. The cable car takes hikers to the starting point of the trail. Alternatively, hikers can start the trail from Blauherd, which is mostly downhill.

The hike is not particularly challenging, but it does require good shoes or boots due to some steep and rocky areas. The trail can be completed in 2-3 hours, depending on the number of stops made along the way. However, some hikers may take up to 5 hours to complete the trail at a leisurely pace.

The trail is also suitable for electric mountain biking, although caution is advised due to some steep and rocky areas, particularly when going downhill. The trail ends with a thrilling bike ride down to Zermatt, navigating around cliffs and narrow dirt paths.

Amenities along the trail include water fountains at some of the lakes and toilets located inside restaurants. However, hikers are advised to pack plenty of water as not all lakes have water fountains. The restaurants require payment for toilet use unless food is purchased.
