5 Tips for Taking Your Dog to the Beach

For the first time, you took your dog on vacation with you. Most dogs love being on the beach and if the beach rules allow dogs, you should be able to let your dog enjoy the sand and waves. Although it may seem as easy as taking it for a walk, there are some basic rules and tips that you should follow to make sure both you and your dog have a great time.

1. Check the weather.
It is recommended to check the weather and the temperature before taking your dog to the beach. If it is too hot outside, it is not safe for your dog to be running around on the sand. Some sunscreen will also be necessary to protect your dog's skin from the sun. If you bring toys, other dogs might steal it and your dog might get into a fight. Bringing water and a bowl is a must, because your dog will need to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Don't forget poop bags too, so you can clean up after your dog.

2. Watch your dog the entire time.
Dogs can get lost very easily, especially if they are running around and playing in the sand. Make sure your dog always has a way to get back to you, whether it is a leash or a designated spot where you will be meeting up.

3. Don’t let your dog eat any sand or drink salt water.
Make sure your dog doesn’t eat sand because it can cause an upset stomach and diarhea. Salt water can also make your dog very sick, so always bring fresh water for your dog to drink. Also, the sand might end up in his eyelids which can cause irritation so make sure to bring eye drops just in case.

4. Watch out for the waves.
Even dogs that swim well can get into trouble if they are playing in the waves and are not paying attention. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your dog at all times, and if he starts to struggle, get him out of the water right away. In case if your dog is afraid and not a fan of swimming, don't force him into the water because it will only make him more scared and he might end up getting lost.Try slowly to introduce fun into playing in the water, but if it doesn’t work out, just let him be and enjoy the sun.

5. Wash the sand off your dog.
When you are leaving the beach, give your dog a shower and brush him off really well. This will get rid of most of the sand and he will be much more comfortable. The sand between the paws should be all washed out, as he can get an infection if it’s not. Clean towels will help you with this process. You may also want to use wet wipes to get rid of the smell. When you get home, give him a post beach bath so he can really get clean.

Finally, don't forget to have a good time with your dog. Day at the beach with your dog is a great way to spend some quality time together and create some unforgettable memories. These basic rules will help make sure that both you and your dog have a great time.
