Adelianos Kampos Beach is situated 6 km east of the city of Rethymnon in the region of Adele, on the island of Crete, Greece. Once a small village, it has grown and developed to become an extension of the city. The beach is known for its large expanse of sand stretching towards Skalete.
The beach's natural characteristics include a combination of sand and pebbles, some areas featuring a pebble bottom while others are sandy. Entry into the water can be challenging due to the presence of underwater rocks and gaps between them, necessitating the use of water shoes for safety. Approximately 2 meters from the shore, there is a leveled rock 'platform' which is around 1.5-1.7m deep. The sea is generally shallow but can have frequent waves, similar to other open beaches in northern Crete. It is noteworthy to mention that the beach is a nesting site for sea turtles, and these areas are protected and marked with ropes and signs.
Adelianos Kampos Beach is well-organized and equipped with facilities for visitors. It offers amenities such as umbrellas, lifeguards on duty, changing rooms, showers, and bars. Despite being well-equipped, some areas of the beach can appear somewhat unkempt.
The beach is a popular spot for water and beach sports, offering several options for recreational activities. Furthermore, the surrounding area of Adelianos Kampos presents various options for food, shopping, and entertainment, providing a comprehensive beach experience for visitors.
The beach is accessible by bus from the city center of Rethymnon, making it easily reachable for locals and tourists alike. There are several large hotel units in the vicinity providing accommodation for visitors.
Adelianos Kampos Beach has a mix of crowded and quieter areas. The areas with umbrellas and sunbeds tend to be more populated, while the coast's sections featuring large flat stones in the water about 4-5 meters from the shore are often less crowded. Despite its popularity, there are still spots on the beach that offer a more secluded experience for those seeking tranquility.
