Aliki Beach

Aliki Beach, also known as Almirida Beach, is a small, secluded seaside attraction located 38km east of Rethymnon, near the village of Sisses in Crete, Greece. Despite its proximity to a village, the beach is not heavily developed for tourism, making it a favored spot among local residents. The beach is known for its stunning views and tranquil atmosphere, often described as a private or wild beach due to its seclusion from crowds. The beach is characterized by a mixture of sandy and pebbly terrain, with a rocky seabed that may necessitate beach shoes for comfort and safety. It is surrounded by tamarisk trees that provide a natural shade, and the water is notably clean and clear, often likened to a swimming pool, particularly on calm, windless days. The natural beauty of Aliki Beach is complemented by interesting historical artifacts in its vicinity. Near the shore, visitors can find ruins of an old tax office for carob, a testament to the area's past when products were exported by cargo ships before roads were built. To the south of the beach, there is a scenic chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas, and a nearby peak called Pirgos holds remnants of a German outpost from World War II. Despite its remote location, Aliki Beach is easily accessible. A well-maintained asphalt road leads directly to the beach, ending in a free parking area for visitors' convenience. In terms of amenities, the beach offers a limited number of umbrellas and sunbeds. A few cafes and taverns are available nearby, providing options for food and drinks. The beach is not typically overcrowded, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a quieter beach experience in North Crete.
