Alona Beach

Alona Beach is a picturesque beach located in the farthest east of Crete. It is known for its natural beauty, with soft, clean sand and light waves. The beach is not deep, requiring visitors to walk a fair distance before they can swim. One of the most striking features of Alona Beach is the hundreds of lilies that bloom in late August and September, adding a unique charm to the landscape. The beach is relatively untouched and wild, offering a raw and unspoiled experience for visitors. However, this also means that there are no public showers or other amenities available, so visitors are advised to bring their own supplies. Parking is available near the beach, with a gravel parking space located a few hundred meters from the beach. To reach the beach, visitors can take a gravel road before the village of Xerokampos when approaching from Zakros. From the parking space, there is a footpath of about 400 meters down to the beach. Alona Beach is generally not crowded, especially during the low seasons. However, due to its small size, it can get easily overcrowded in the high season. The beach can also be quite windy, with little cover available. Despite this, it offers a beautiful hiking trail to the next village, which is approximately 8-9 kilometers away.
