Plage du Boucanet is a tranquil beach situated in the city of Le Grau-du-Roi, within the Gard department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France. Located to the west of the city center, the beach extends approximately 3 km from La Grande Motte to the right bank beach. The beach is recognized for its easy accessibility, making it a welcoming destination for all visitors, including those with disabilities.
The natural environment of Plage du Boucanet features small dunes and a wide sandy area, providing a pleasant atmosphere for beachgoers. It is particularly suitable for families with children, as the water gradually deepens and there is a lengthy stretch where it is possible to touch the bottom. However, visitors should be aware that some parts of the beach are characterized by the presence of stones and scrap metal, and there are barriers warning of potential hazards on the ground.
Two supervised areas are present at Plage du Boucanet. The first is near the CHU du Grau du Roi, close to the Pinède du Boucanet, and the second is on Boulevard Jean Bastide. The first supervised area is labeled as Handiplage, indicating that it is equipped with facilities for people with disabilities. In addition to this, the beach also offers various amenities and leisure activities, enhancing the overall beach experience for visitors.
Parking at Plage du Boucanet can be somewhat challenging due to the limited number of spaces. However, some visitors have reported being able to find free parking without much difficulty. It should be noted that there could be a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the beach itself.
The beach can be easily reached on foot or by bike, offering a pleasant track that is ideal for running or strolling. Positioned near the Passe des Abimes, the beach faces the Levant beach in La Grande Motte. It is the first beach in the resort and is situated along the Pinède du Boucanet, behind RD 255.
Despite its tranquility, Plage du Boucanet can get crowded, particularly during the peak summer months. However, its wide expanse and the presence of a private beach with beach chair rentals can help manage the influx of visitors.
