Praia da Catía, also known as O Castro, is a beach situated in the municipality of Ribeira. This picturesque beach stands out for its extensive length, calm waters, and fine white sand dotted with shells, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks. Parallel to the beach, a wooden promenade, providing an alternative route for walkers, extends towards the port. The beach is situated in a semi-urban area, contributing to its easy accessibility.
Despite its urban location and clear signage, the beach is not typically crowded, offering a tranquil environment for visitors. It is especially popular among families and those seeking a quiet time by the sea. During the high season, however, the beach has a high occupancy rate, with over 70% of the beach being occupied. This could be due to its proximity to a bus stop.
The beach is devoid of commercial establishments, maintaining its natural and peaceful ambiance. Nevertheless, the vicinity offers numerous bars where visitors can enjoy a variety of tapas. It should be noted that amenities such as showers and toilets are not available at the beach. Additionally, the water at Praia da Catía is known to be on the colder side.
In terms of healthcare facilities, there is a hospital called Hospital Comarcal da Barbanza located approximately 6 km away from the beach. Additionally, a sports harbor, the Ribeira Marina, is situated about 4 km away from the beach.
