Playa de Colón

Playa de Colón is a picturesque beach located in Santiago de la Ribera, in the municipality of San Javier, in the Region of Murcia, Spain. The beach, situated between the Nautical Club of Santiago de la Ribera and the Ciudad del Aire, is known for its fine golden sand and is 1000m long and 30m wide. It was created during a period of beach regeneration in the late 20th century, which significantly altered the landscape of the area and the Mar Menor. The beach is known for its quiet and clean environment, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Despite its artificial origins, the beach maintains a natural feel with fairly clean water and a typical fauna of the area. However, the water is known to contain mud and seaweed, which can make swimming challenging, though the warm water is perfect for paddling and sitting in. Playa de Colón has numerous access points, including stairs and ramps for people with disabilities. The beach is one of the busiest in Santiago de la Ribera during the tourist season, yet it is not overrun with tourists, maintaining a predominantly local crowd. The beach offers a variety of amenities, including a nautical school for sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing. There are also boat rentals, sunbed and umbrella rentals, foot showers, toilets, parking, shaded areas for people with disabilities, amphibious chairs, ramps, and lifeguard services. Along the beach, there is a pleasant promenade which is a popular spot for evening walks and is lined with several bars.
