Corolla Beach

Corolla Beach is a beautiful and enjoyable destination located on the border of Virginia and North Carolina. It is known for its long stretches of open sand and fairly easy local traffic. The beach is not typically crowded, even during peak vacation months, allowing visitors to spread out and enjoy the peace.

One of the unique natural characteristics of Corolla Beach is the presence of wild horses, which can often be seen roaming the area. The beach is also a great place for hunting crabs at night. After a storm, visitors can find varied and pretty sea shells, as well as sea glass along the shore.

In terms of amenities, Corolla Beach offers several nice places to eat, a grocery store, and plenty of beach gift shops. Near the lighthouse, there are very clean restrooms and covered tables. There is also free beach parking with restrooms and possibly showers directly across from the lighthouse entrance.

For those interested in driving on the beach, it is free if you don't park. However, parking on the beach will cost a fee. It is recommended to check tides before driving on the beach, as it can get thin during a spring tide. There is a place to air down and up at the lighthouse, which is the only place to do so other than on the beach itself.

Corolla Beach is also near the historic Corolla Park, which offers additional photo opportunities. Visitors have reported memorable experiences at Corolla Beach, including kite flying on windy days and even exchanging waves with military personnel from a passing helicopter.
