Cala del Carnaje

Cala del Carnaje is a remarkable cove located within the Cabo de Gata natural park on the Almeria coast. It is known for its unique natural characteristics, including its large rock formations and the remains of basalt and cobblestones that line the beach. The beach is also home to an impressive array of marine fauna, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. The beach is not directly accessible by car, requiring visitors to embark on a 15-30 minute walk from the parking area. This walk, while sometimes challenging due to the steep, rocky terrain, is considered part of the beach's charm. The path can only be traversed by a 4x4 vehicle, making it a predominantly pedestrian route. Despite its somewhat remote location, Cala del Carnaje is known for its tranquility and lack of crowds. Visitors often comment on the clear, calm waters and the abundance of fish. However, it is recommended that visitors wear booties when entering the water due to the presence of sea urchins and rocks. The beach's eastern orientation makes it a prime location for watching the sunrise. Even on windy days, the sea at Cala del Carnaje remains calm, adding to its appeal as a peaceful retreat. However, the presence of large rocks and bowling pins can sometimes make entering the water a challenge.
