Playa del Descargador

Playa del Descargador, located in Cartagena, is a small, tranquil beach nestled in the cove of Cala Flores, near Cala Reona. Its location grants it a south-west orientation, which shields it from the prevailing winds of the area, known as the 'Levante'. The beach stretches for about 70 meters, and it's characterized by its coarse, grey sand and crystalline waters. A unique feature of Playa del Descargador is the volcanic islet that rises from the sea, just off the shore. This hints at the rocky, jagged, and irregular seabed teeming with marine life beneath the clear waters. The islet, together with the coastline stretching towards Cartagena, offers a picturesque view to beachgoers. Moreover, a trip up to the rocks on the eastern side of the beach will reveal a view of the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse. Getting to Playa del Descargador is straightforward, with a gentle ramp connecting the road to the beach. Parking is generally available in the vicinity, especially along Cala La Isla, located just above the cove. During the off-peak season, parking is also available on the cove itself, which is accessible via a wooden staircase. A footwash tap is conveniently placed at one of the entrances for beachgoers' use. The beach is a popular spot for snorkeling, thanks to its vibrant marine life and colorful seabeds. Its peaceful atmosphere makes it an ideal place for visitors seeking a serene beach experience. However, the beach does have some limitations. Its sandy areas are few and small, with most of its surface covered by rocks and small stones. Planting an umbrella might be a challenge due to the limited space and the rocky terrain. Additionally, entering and exiting the water could be uncomfortable without appropriate footwear. Lastly, there is no lifeguard service available on the beach. Despite these challenges, Playa del Descargador remains a beloved spot for those in search of tranquility and natural beauty.
