Plage del Forat

Plage del Forat is a secluded beach located in the bay of Paulilles in Port-Vendres, which lies within the Pyrénées-Orientales department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, France. The beach is not as well-known as other beaches in the area, resulting in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, particularly during the summer months. The natural features of Plage del Forat are striking, with a rugged coastline and a view of the Cap Béar. The beach is comprised of a mixture of sand and pebbles, and the clear waters are home to a rich array of marine life, including fish, starfish, and octopuses. These conditions make the beach an ideal spot for snorkeling. Despite its serene environment, Plage del Forat lacks certain amenities. The beach is not equipped with facilities such as toilets, cafes, or showers, and it is not monitored by lifeguards. Shade is limited and can primarily be found around the rocks and trees scattered along the beach. However, it does offer a dog-friendly environment, inviting visitors to bring their canine companions along. Access to Plage del Forat is primarily by car, with the journey from Port-Vendres taking approximately 10 minutes. Visitors can reach the beach by heading towards Banyuls sur Mer and then turning right at a roundabout towards a parking area. While the beach does not have an officially designated parking area, parking is generally accepted. Visitors then follow several trails leading to the beach, using the chimney of a former dynamite factory as a landmark. However, potential visitors should be aware that the entrance to the beach can be challenging due to the presence of rocks and seaweed.
