Dinard Plage, also referred to as Plage de l’Ecluse, is a picturesque beach situated in the coastal resort city of Dinard, in north-east Brittany, France. Known for its clean, expansive stretch of sand, which varies with the tide, the beach is surrounded by a charming cityscape filled with elegant turn-of-the-century villas and grand hotels. This backdrop, coupled with the beach's stunning coastal scenery and pleasant climate, makes Dinard Plage a popular choice among visitors.
Dinard boasts a coastline of nine kilometers, featuring four main beaches: la plage de l’Écluse, la plage de Saint-Énogat, la plage du Prieuré, and la plage du Port-Blanc, as well as smaller coves such as Port-Riou and du Port-Salut along the Malouine Point. Each of these beaches offers its own unique features and amenities, providing visitors with a variety of experiences.
La plage de l’Écluse, located in the center of the resort, is a large sandy beach that offers rental services for tents, sun loungers, and cabins. This family-friendly beach is also equipped with a large outdoor seawater pool, making it particularly convenient for swimming, especially when the tide is low.
La plage de Saint-Énogat, situated in the center of the Saint-Énogat neighborhood, also offers rental services for tents and cabins. La plage du Prieuré, located near the picturesque Port-Breton park, features a seawater pool that allows visitors to swim without straying far from their towels. La plage du Port Blanc, near the junction with the town of Saint-Lunaire, is popular for water sports and houses the National School of Rescue.
During the summer season, all four beaches are monitored by certified lifeguards from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm. The Association of Emerald Coast Lifeguards, which has been present in Dinard for over 30 years, offers first aid and sea rescue training courses. Additionally, the city of Dinard provides beach animation clubs for children, supervised by qualified staff members.
The beach is also surrounded by a variety of amenities including cafes, brasseries, and creperies, adding to its appeal. Its proximity to a market that operates on Saturdays provides visitors with the opportunity to purchase a variety of goods.
However, visitors should note that the tides in the Saint-Malo Bay, where Dinard Plage is located, are among the strongest in the world. During high tides, the rising sea can be rapid and can potentially isolate walkers and fishermen on sandbanks or rocks. For this reason, visitors are advised to follow safety guidelines to ensure their safety.
