Durgan Beach

Durgan Beach is a quaint beach located in the Falmouth area. It is unique in the area for being dog-friendly all year round, although dogs should be kept on leads. The beach is owned by the National Trust, along with the village behind it. The village, which has been described as a 'ghost town', is now primarily holiday lets. The beach itself is a shingle or gravel beach, a characteristic common to the beaches in this part of the estuary. The water is quite shallow, making it suitable for non-swimmers. The beach is small and has been described as 'unspoilt', making it popular with walkers. However, it has very limited facilities, with only a toilet and a small ice cream outlet available. Parking at Durgan Beach can be challenging, especially during busy periods. Cars are not permitted in the village, so visitors need to park in a National Trust car park at the top of the winding lane and walk down to the beach. The walk is about a mile from the car park, and there is a good footpath leading down to the beach. However, the path is rough in places and parts of the lane are steep, which could make access difficult for wheelchair users. Despite these challenges, the beach offers lovely views as you descend, and a sandy/pebbly beach awaits at the bottom. The sea is perfect for a dip for those who don't mind the cold. Overall, Durgan Beach offers a tranquil and unspoilt beach experience, albeit with limited amenities and challenging parking.
