El Salón Beach

El Salón Beach, also known as Playa El Salón, is a picturesque and tranquil beach located in the town of Nerja, Spain. It is known for its unique charm, beautiful views, and proximity to the popular tourist attraction, the Balcon de Europa. The beach is not very large, extending only about 200 meters in length and 20 meters in width, but it offers a peaceful and enjoyable experience for visitors. El Salón Beach is characterized by its rugged coastline, coarse and dark sand, and is surrounded by cliffs and greenery. It has a straight shoreline that is sheltered from the Mediterranean Sea and is overlooked by apartments. Despite its small size, it is a popular destination, particularly among Spanish families, and can get crowded during peak months. Access to the beach is only possible on foot, via a narrow street near the El Salvador Church or a small street called Calle Salón, which zigzags down a steep hill. Due to its central location, visitors have several options for lunch in the nearby town center. However, there are no beachfront restaurants, but a kiosk on the beach sells refreshments. Amenities at El Salón Beach include showers, toilets, a lifeguard, sunbed rentals, and some beach bars. Although the beach used to be a fishing beach and still houses fishing sheds, it does not offer many other services. Parking near the beach can be challenging. The closest parking option is the paid underground parking near the town hall. The slope to reach the beach may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility. Despite these challenges, the beach's unique charm and central location make it a popular destination for tourists.
