Es Códol Foradat, located in Migjorn, Formentera, is a picturesque beach renowned for its tranquility and natural beauty. The beach is characterized by its golden, fine sand that stretches along the coast, interspersed with rocky areas. The coastline is dotted with casitas varador (small houses for sheltering boats), adding to the beach's picturesque charm.
The beach is named after a distinctive rock formation, known as "còdol foradat" or "the perforated rock" in Catalan. This large rock has a natural hole, creating a unique view that has become a symbol of the beach. The contrast between the intense blue of the sea and the white limestone of the rock formation is a sight to behold.
Es Códol Foradat is divided into areas of varying lengths, with sandy stretches measuring approximately 80 meters and 450 meters. As one moves further east along the beach, the sandy areas become smaller, and the rocks become more predominant, providing secluded spots for privacy and tranquility. These secluded areas are popular among visitors who prefer nudism.
Despite its popularity, Es Códol Foradat is usually not crowded, providing a serene and private setting away from the bustling tourist routes. The absence of mass tourist facilities enhances this sense of tranquility. Visitors are advised to bring their own beach essentials, such as umbrellas, towels, and food and drinks.
The beach's crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The shallow waters make it an ideal spot for families with children, while the waters around the rock formation are home to a variety of marine life, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling.
Reaching Es Códol Foradat is relatively straightforward, with multiple access points available. These include access points located at kilometer 8.9 and 9.6 of the main road towards la Mola, following the signs for Es Códol Foradat and Vogamarí restaurants respectively. There are also independent dirt road accesses at kilometer 10.5 and 10.7, marked by a blue sign and leading to the 10.7 restaurant. The beach is also accessible by bike or on foot from nearby areas, although the terrain may be challenging in certain parts.
