Cala Estreta is a serene and picturesque beach nestled between Calella de Palafrugell and Palamós, located in Costa Brava, Girona Pyrenees, Spain. The beach is known for its untouched natural beauty, characterized by its long, tranquil sandbank with coarse golden sand, surrounded by cliffs and pine trees. It stretches 150 meters long and has an average width of ten meters.
The beach is divided into two parts by a large central reef, giving it a unique double half-moon shape. This reef creates various intriguing nooks and crannies to explore both on land and under the crystal clear water, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling or diving. The Formigues islands, located about a kilometer away from the beach, can be seen from a small pier on the largest island, offering an excellent panoramic view.
Cala Estreta offers a few amenities for its visitors. During the summer months, a small beach bar is typically open, and umbrellas, chairs, and loungers are available for those who prefer to stay out of the water. A lifeguard service is available on weekends in July and August. An old fisherman's hut that was restored by the Town Council adds a historical touch to the beach. The hut's existence traces back to the 16th century, and it can be requested for use.
To reach Cala Estreta, visitors can park their car at the nearby Castell beach and take a pleasant 20-30 minute walk along the coastal path. The path takes visitors through a beautiful coastal forest, adding to the overall experience. Alternatively, visitors can also reach the beach by kayak, taking approximately 40 minutes. However, caution is advised due to stones in the water.
Despite its natural allure, Cala Estreta is not usually crowded, offering a more secluded beach experience for those seeking tranquility. Nudity is common on this beach, with one of its coves designated for naturists. Some visitors even choose to camp overnight. However, the beach does not offer any services or amenities, so visitors are advised to bring all necessary items with them, including water.
