Firnaz Koyu is a natural protected area situated in Gelemiş Mahallesi, within the Kaş district of Antalya province, Turkey. The area is recognized for its untouched natural beauty, and has been designated a "Natural Site - Strictly Protected Sensitive Area," "Natural Site - Qualified Natural Conservation Area," and "Natural Site - Sustainable Conservation and Controlled Use Area" by the Ministry. The registration process for the Strictly Protected Sensitive Area is currently ongoing.
The bay is acclaimed for its clear waters and is often likened to an aquarium due to its underwater richness. This makes it a popular spot for diving, with the opportunity to observe a variety of marine life, including barracudas, octopuses, sea turtles, starfish, bonitos, rainbow wrasses, anemones, and even ancient amphorae. The beach is also known for its rejuvenating mud baths, surrounded by lush greenery and olive trees.
Firnaz Koyu is located about 4 km from the town of Kalkan, within the Yeşilköy neighborhood. Despite being in close proximity to a town, the bay is secluded and tranquil, making it a preferred anchoring spot for boaters. This seclusion is further accentuated by the fact that the area is not accessible by car due to its protected status; the road to the beach is unpaved and can be challenging to navigate. Therefore, reaching Firnaz Koyu is more practical by sea. Regular boat tours from Kaş harbor provide access to the bay, making it a popular inclusion in their itineraries.
In addition to its natural amenities, Firnaz Koyu is also home to historical sites. It is situated along the Likya Yolu, a famous hiking trail, where visitors can explore historical sites including the Delik Kemer, a water aqueduct from the Lycian period. This ancient structure was built to solve the water problem of the city of Patara and continues to attract tourists to this day.
Despite its popularity and the thousands of visitors it attracts each year, Firnaz Koyu maintains its peaceful atmosphere due to its strict conservation measures and lack of development.
