Fontana Amorosa, also known as Paralía Fontana Amorosa, is a remote and scenic beach located on the Akamas Peninsula, approximately 48 kilometers north of Paphos in Cyprus. The beach is noted for its natural beauty, featuring lush vegetation and forested areas, as well as its crystal-clear waters. The beach itself is a narrow strip, approximately 400 meters long and 5 meters wide, consisting of small brownish stones, which are believed to be fragments of broken clay pots mixed with natural stones.
The beach's name, Fontana Amorosa, translates to "the fountain of love". This name stems from a stone fountain that has been preserved at the site, which was once known as Fontana Amorosa. The site is associated with the famous Baths of Aphrodite, a natural cave where the goddess of love is said to have bathed, located roughly 6 kilometers away.
The journey to Fontana Amorosa can be an adventure in and of itself. The beach is accessible by various modes of transportation, including on foot, by bike, rental quads, and 4x4 vehicles. A jeep service is also available from Aphrodite's Bath parking for those who prefer a more leisurely journey. The unpaved road leading to the beach and the surrounding terrain, however, can be challenging, and it is not recommended to use a regular car. The journey from Aphrodite's Bath to Fontana Amorosa takes approximately 1-1.5 hours on foot, passing by Manolis Bay and Blue Lagoon.
Despite its remote location, Fontana Amorosa can become crowded during the summer months, with both boats and people. However, it is generally not typically crowded. Visitors are advised to be prepared for the intense summer sun by bringing sunscreen and coverings. The beach itself is unorganized, with no specific amenities mentioned, but its natural characteristics and the opportunities it offers for snorkeling and hiking make it a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
