Praia de Fontela, also known as Balea, is a picturesque beach located in the parish of San Pedro de Benquerencia in Barreiros, Galicia, within the region of A Mariña Lucense. The beach stretches over a length of approximately 1000 meters, with a width that varies between 45 and 160 meters, making it a spacious and comfortable destination for beachgoers.
The beach maintains a natural and unspoiled state, with little urbanization in the surrounding area. It is distinguished by its white sand, moderate to strong waves, and a straight shoreline, offering optimal conditions for surfing. The coastal fauna in the vicinity adds to the untouched charm of the area.
One of the striking features of Praia de Fontela is its rocky formations, the most notable of which is the "Pena do Castro." This larger rock was once the site of an ancient settlement known as a castro, adding a historical dimension to the beach's natural beauty. Another noteworthy feature is a source of water, known as Fontela, which once provided drinking water. Although the source still exists today, the water is no longer potable.
