Gasteiner Badesee, also known as Vorderschneeberg, is a man-made lake nestled between the towns of Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein in Austria. The lake, created in the 1980s, spans an area of 4.5 hectares with 2.3 hectares covered by water and has a maximum depth of approximately 4 meters. The lake is situated at an altitude of 848 meters, providing a picturesque setting against the backdrop of the Gastein mountains.
The area surrounding the lake is a spacious meadow, offering plenty of room for relaxation and various activities. Visitors can rent sun loungers and umbrellas to enjoy the sun, or play at the beach volleyball court. For younger visitors, there is a playground with a slide. A unique feature of the lake is a diving tower that adds an element of fun to the swimming experience.
In addition to these facilities, there is a restaurant with a sun terrace and a beach bar on site.
Gasteiner Badesee can be reached by car, public transportation, bike, or foot. For those traveling by car, there is free parking available on-site. Public transportation options include bus routes from the train stations in Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein, with a bus stop called "Bad Gastein Badesee (Bundesstraße)" located right in front of the lake. A cycling path and a walking path known as the Gasteinertal Radweg and the Achenpromenade, respectively, also lead to the lake.
Despite its popularity, Gasteiner Badesee offers a quiet and calm atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility. The lake is open from early May to mid-September, depending on the weather, from 10 am to 7 pm. However, after 5 pm, admission is free.
