Gibson Beach

Gibson Beach is a picturesque beach surrounded by high cliffs, offering a unique natural setting. The beach is known for its orangey coarse sand and is easily accessible through a set of steps carved into the cliff face. These steps were originally created by local settler Hugh Gibson, who worked on the route initially used by the Kirrae Whurrong people. The beach offers stunning views of the 12 Apostles and sea birds, adding to its charm. The beach can be reached by parking your car at the Gibson Steps car park or by walking the one kilometre from the 12 Apostles, departing from the back of the kiosk. The path passes under the Great Ocean Road near the Gibson Steps viewing platform and beach access. However, visitors are advised to be mindful of the conditions as they may change rapidly. Gibson Beach is a popular destination, especially on weekends, and can get crowded. Despite this, there is plenty of room for strolling and taking photos with the stacks as a background. The steps leading to the beach can be narrow and wet, so caution is advised. Once on the beach, the walking conditions are relatively easy, making it a great spot for a leisurely walk.
