Gray Whale North Beach

Gray Whale Cove State Beach features a distinct area known as Edun Beach, where clothing is not permitted, despite being prohibited in all state parks. This clothing-optional zone is situated on the right side of the staircase, and occasionally extends into other areas. Consequently, during peak times, nude individuals may be visible near the main stairway entrance. In addition, visitors can explore an old WWII bunker situated above Edun Cove. To access the beach, visitors can park in the Highway 1 lot north of Montara and carefully descend the steep stairs. The name Edun is derived from the word "n-u-d-e" spelled backwards.
