Plage de Guerzit, also known as Saint-Samson Beach, is a picturesque beach located in the Baie de Morlaix, in the Trégor region of Brittany, France. The beach is within the commune of Plougasnou, known for its translucent waters, and is a part of a beautiful coastal walk that stretches from the Pointe de Perhérel to the Anse de Térenez. This walk offers stunning views of the bay's islands and the Barnénez peninsula.
The beach is unique for its pebble composition, which provides warmth and does not stick to the feet of visitors. It is also a popular spot for viewing beautiful sunsets over the sea. The beach's western position exposes it to sunlight and makes it more prone to storms and algae, but it also means that the beach benefits from beautiful sunsets over the sea.
Despite being a popular starting point for excursions, the beach lacks certain amenities. There are no public toilets or other infrastructure for walkers, and the entrance to the hiking trail along the coast north of the beach is not clearly marked. There is, however, a restaurant facing the beach. Visitors should be aware that the presence of walkers and their dogs can disturb the local brant geese, who come to drink the fresh water that runs down the beach.
The beach can be accessed by taking the D46 road from the center of Plougasnou to Saint-Nicolas, and then turning onto the D46A2 towards Le Diben. After 4 km, a right turn onto Rue de Saint Samson leads to the beach, with signs indicating the way. There is no mention of parking facilities at the beach. The beach is not typically crowded, but visitors should be aware that it lacks surveillance and entertainment, unlike the larger Primel-Trégastel Beach nearby.
The coastal walk that includes Plage de Guerzit has a moderate difficulty level, with an elevation gain of 290m and a distance of 12km. The estimated travel time is around 3 hours. The walk consists of two stages: the first stage follows the GR34 trail along the bay, offering panoramic views of the bay of Morlaix and the port of Térénez on the Stérec island. The second stage takes you up to the coastal road, following the coastline and passing through various villages until reaching the Guerzit beach and returning to the bay.
