Hauptstrand Wittdün

Hauptstrand Wittdün, located on the island of Amrum in the National Park Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea, is a serene beach known for its natural beauty and tranquility, especially during the late spring. Nestled in the southwest of Nordfriesland Föhr, the beach offers a stunning landscape of kilometer-long sandy stretches and beautiful dunes, extending to the horizon. The beach is easily accessible by a ferry service. Visitors can embark on a scenic journey from either Dagebüll or Nordstrand, passing through the Wadden Sea and by the Halligen and the neighboring island of Föhr. The ferry ride lasts approximately 2 hours from Dagebüll and 90 minutes from Nordstrand. The ferries from Dagebüll operate up to 8 times daily, while the Adler Express from Nordstrand operates twice daily towards the island. Hauptstrand Wittdün offers numerous amenities for visitors. Notably, it is home to a newly constructed playground with a shrimp boat theme, replacing the old pirate ship, providing an enjoyable experience for children. For those interested in activities, the beach offers opportunities for standup paddling, and bicycles are available for rent to explore the surrounding areas. A unique feature of the beach is the hammock set up at the water's edge, accessible after a nearly 2 km walk over the Kniepsand. This offers visitors the chance to bathe regardless of the tide, even at low tide. However, reaching the water may require about half an hour of walking. The beach is also surrounded by the Vogelkoje nature trail, which is easily accessible by bike, adding to the opportunities for relaxation and exploration.
