Hintersteiner See

Hintersteiner See, also known as Strand Hintersteiner See and Strandbad Hintersteiner See, is a picturesque mountain lake located in the town of Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Tirol, Austria. This lake, nestled within the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve, is renowned for its crystal-clear, turquoise-blue water and its exceptional cleanliness. At an elevation of 883 meters and spanning 56 hectares, Hintersteiner See reaches a maximum depth of 36 meters, making it an attractive spot for swimming and nature walks.

The lake is accessible from the town on foot, requiring approximately an hour's hike, or by car or bus. Visitors can use their guest card for free transportation to the lake. The southern shore of the lake offers a slightly elevated path, providing stunning panoramic views of the clear mountain water. The northern shore is accessible via a road and features a natural beach known for its beauty. This beach, also referred to as "Strandbad" by locals, gently slopes into the water and is equipped with a kiosk, sanitary facilities, changing rooms, and rental services for sun loungers, sun umbrellas, and Stand-Up-Paddling (SUP) boards.

In addition to these amenities, there are several establishments offering food and drink along the shoreline. A large parking area is available for visitors, although the popularity of the area can sometimes result in limited parking space. Despite the lake's popularity, the area maintains a tranquil atmosphere, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.
