Playa Isla De La Piedra, also known as Stone Island, is a serene beach destination located in the vibrant city of Mazatlan, Mexico. Despite being in a bustling city, the beach provides a tranquil escape from the city noise, especially during weekdays when it is usually quieter.
The natural beauty of Playa Isla De La Piedra is significant, albeit not extraordinary when compared to other beaches. The beach is beautifully adorned with traditional palapas, structures that provide shade and a comfortable place to relax, thus enhancing the overall beach-going experience. These palapas contribute to the relaxed and laid-back vibe of the beach, further complementing its natural charm.
Visitors to Playa Isla De La Piedra can also enjoy traditional food and drinks from the region, adding to the authentic feel of the beach. However, patrons should be aware that service at the beach's establishments can sometimes be slower due to staff shortages. Additionally, there is a practice of some establishments including a tip in the bill, which may not be familiar to all visitors.
The beach is accessible either by land or by water taxi. To reach the beach by land, visitors can drive south on Highway 15 towards Tepic or Durango. Upon reaching the traffic lights signed for the airport, they should turn right and drive approximately 2 km to the intersection marked "Isla de la Piedra". From there, they should turn right and follow the pavement, passing by the Estrella del Mar Resort and leading to the village of Isla de la Piedra, which is about 15 km away from the starting point.
Alternatively, the beach can be reached by water taxi. Visitors can take a taxi or pulmonia (open-air taxi) through Mazatlan to the "embarcadero-Isla de la piedra" (ferry dock for Stone Island). After a 10-minute ride across the harbor in a small water taxi, they will arrive on the Isla. A brief taxi ride through the village will then take them to the beach and the meeting point.
