Kalkın Plajı

Kalkın Plajı, situated in the Akçakoca district of Turkey's Düzce province, is a popular holiday destination known for its shallow sea, sandy beach, and clear water. The beach, which is 6 km away from the town center, is located in a tranquil area where the greenery meets the sea, at the western end of the Black Sea region.

The beach offers a variety of amenities including dressing rooms, showers, sunbed and umbrella rentals, and a cafeteria for refreshments. There is also a sports training center and a restaurant on the premises. The entry to the beach is free, but there are charges for renting sunbeds and umbrellas.

Parking at Kalkın Plajı is conveniently located next to the beach, though a fee is applicable. Visitors are advised to follow Akçakocabey boulevard from the town center and continue on the Karasu-Şile road until reaching the sign for Kalkın Köyü, and then turn right towards the sea. The beach is about 37 km away from Düzce city center.

Visitors from Istanbul or Ankara can reach Akçakoca in approximately three hours by car. Those coming from Istanbul should follow the route through Gebze, Sapanca, Hendek, Cumayeri, and Düzce, while visitors from Ankara can reach Akçakoca by following the Susuz bypass or the Gerede-Bolu road.

Despite its popularity, Kalkın Plajı is not typically crowded, offering a peaceful and serene environment for its visitors. It is also known for its safety measures, including regular cleaning, temperature checks at the entrance, and disinfection of changing cabins. Five lifeguards are on duty to handle the strong currents and remind beachgoers about safety measures.

The natural characteristics of Kalkın Plajı are marked by its wavy and choppy sea due to its location by the Black Sea. However, the beach is extremely shallow, allowing visitors to walk quite a distance into the water. Visitors are advised to be mindful of the counter currents, as the sand can slip off their feet and pull them into the sea.
