Karoumes Beach

Karoumes Beach is a picturesque destination situated in the Itanos Municipal Unit, which forms part of the Sitia Geopark. This geopark, home to the beach, is noted for its diverse geographical features, including a variety of coastal landscapes, geological lines, and alpine rocks. Karoumes Beach is celebrated for its serenity and natural allure. It is not usually crowded, providing a tranquil environment for those who visit. The water at this beach is distinctively clear, offering an ideal setting for snorkeling and observing diverse marine life, including the cornetfish that often approach the shore. Getting to Karoumes Beach involves a trek down a rocky gorge. This journey takes approximately an hour and the level of difficulty depends on the fitness level of the individual. Although it is possible to undertake the trek in sandals, comfortable hiking shoes are recommended for a better experience. It is also advised to take along water and a hat for protection against the sun. Unfortunately, there are no amenities available on the beach or along the hiking trail. Therefore, visitors are advised to bring their own provisions, including food and drinking water. However, there is a small café located in the nearby town of Cochlakies, where visitors can enjoy a refreshing cold coffee after the hike.
