Kladissos Beach

Kladissos Beach, situated 21 km northwest of Heraklion and near Agia Pelagia on the island of Crete, is a secluded, serene spot recognized for its spaciousness and tranquility. Known for its green waters, the beach offers a peaceful atmosphere and is marked by its rocky terrain, interspersed with a strip of sand covered in stones. This natural characteristic makes it an ideal place for snorkeling, especially near the rock formations.

Despite its natural charm, visitors are advised to clear a space for their towels before settling down due to the rocky nature of the beach. The beach is also characterized by larger waves, which may pose challenges for younger children or those not confident in their swimming abilities. However, the western half of the beach is slightly more accommodating, with sand available after crossing the initial stony area.

A unique feature of Kladissos Beach is that it is not easily accessible from the northern side due to a tall wall. The only available access is through a hotel built above the beach, which provides organized facilities such as umbrellas and sunbeds. The advantage of this arrangement is that the beach is seldom crowded, making it an ideal destination for those seeking solitude and relaxation.

The beach is patrolled by lifeguards from 10 AM to 6 PM, ensuring the safety of visitors. However, it is important to note that cleanliness can sometimes be an issue, with litter often found washed up ashore or left behind by previous visitors. Despite these minor challenges, its proximity to the city and the peaceful atmosphere make Kladissos Beach a worthwhile visit for those seeking a less crowded beach experience.
