Plage de la Basse Benaie

Plage de la Basse Benaie is a picturesque beach located on the Île de Ré, with a view of a lighthouse. The beach is known for its natural beauty, characterized by beautiful white pebbles and a wilder atmosphere compared to nearby beaches like Montamer and La Salée. It is particularly stunning at low tide, though caution is advised when swimming due to sharp and pointed rocks. The beach is unsupervised, but there are buckets and shovels available at the entrance for children and adults to enjoy. It is spacious enough to avoid feeling crowded, even during the peak summer month of July. Nearby, there is a campsite called Huttopia, which is known for its good quality offerings. The campsite is located right on the beach and offers sandy, flat pitches with electricity available via a Euro plug/adapter. The sanitary facilities are well-maintained and cleaned early in the morning. Access to the beach is through the village of Ste. Marie de Ré. The paths leading to the beach are quite narrow, but manageable. For a change of scenery, a trip to the village of La Flotte on the other side of the island is recommended, preferably by bike.
