Plage de la Grève Blanche is a picturesque beach located in the town of Guilvinec, in the south of Finistère, Bretagne, France. Shared between Guilvinec and Penmarc’h, it's the largest beach in the area and stretches for a kilometer, extending from the Steir de Penmarc'h beach.
The beach faces west, providing stunning views of the Pointe de Penmarc’h and the Eckmühl lighthouse. Its sandy expanses become more expansive during low tide, revealing many rocks that make it a suitable spot for fishing. At low tide, visitors can enjoy collecting crustaceans and shells, and exploring rock pools.
Plage de la Grève Blanche offers various activities for visitors. During the summer season, a water sports center provides opportunities for activities such as catamaran sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing. The beach also serves as a starting point for the GR34 hiking trail towards Kérity, which visitors can access via a boardwalk. It is advised that visitors stay on marked paths to protect the fragile dunes and coastal vegetation.
The beach has a family-friendly atmosphere, with a playground located on the dunes that is popular throughout the year. Amenities for people with reduced mobility, such as an amphibious wheelchair called Tiralo, are also available. However, the beach does not offer lifeguard services.
Facilities such as toilets and showers are available to visitors, although these are operational only in July and August. Parking is available for those who drive to the beach. The closest bus stop is Kerléguer, which is situated 250m away.
The beach is known for its cleanliness, with the seaweed washed ashore seen as a natural part of the ocean ecosystem rather than a sign of dirtiness. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a relatively uncrowded atmosphere. Dogs are only allowed on the beach from October 1st to May 31st, and they must be kept on a leash.
In addition to its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, Plage de la Grève Blanche is surrounded by a variety of eateries, adding to its appeal for visitors. The beach is open year-round, offering a delightful experience for visitors in all seasons.
