Playa de la Hita is a unique and tranquil beach located in Los Alcázares, at the end of Salinas Beach. It is situated within a protected area of El Mar Menor and is known for its distinct natural environment. The beach isn't a typical sandy beach; instead, it has a somewhat loamy, pebbly natural sandy texture.
The beach is characterized by its coastal reed bed, dunes, small lagoons, and rich vegetation, including the siempreviva plant. These natural features create small wetlands nestled between the clearings left by the reed grove. This diverse environment has led to the beach's designation as a Special Area for the Protection of Birds (ZEPA), in line with the European Directive for the Conservation of Wild Birds. Bird enthusiasts can enjoy spotting various bird species, such as storks and terns, from the bird observatory.
To ensure the preservation of the local fauna and flora, wooden walkways have been constructed for visitors. These walkways are suitable for both walking and biking and provide different perspectives of the surrounding environment, thanks to their multiple forks. There's also a tower along the walkway for a panoramic view of the entire environment.
A distinct feature of the beach is the long jetty that extends into the water. This provides a scenic walkway for visitors, adding to the beach's charm. However, visitors should be aware of some broken planks along the walkway that might require caution.
In terms of amenities, there is a campsite situated right next to the beach for those who wish to extend their stay. Despite its natural beauty and tranquility, Playa de la Hita is not typically crowded, offering a peaceful getaway for visitors. However, there have been concerns about the use of heavy machinery for sand cleaning, as it poses a potential threat to the beach's diverse biodiversity.
