Playa de la Madera is a secluded beach nestled in the municipality of Tinajo, in the scenic Canary Islands of Spain. The beach is notable for its unique natural characteristics, including its dark sand and intense waves, which contribute to its dramatic beauty. The beach is set on a volcanic landscape, further enhancing its distinct appeal.
Stretching to a length of 85 meters and a width of 30 meters, this beach is not typically crowded, even during peak season. It is known to be a nudist beach, welcoming those who prefer to sunbathe in their natural state. However, due to the strong waves, swimming is only advisable when the water is calm, and there is no lifeguard present.
Access to Playa de la Madera is straightforward, either by foot or by car via the nearest road, LZ-67. The journey to the beach involves a dirt road from Tenesar, adding a sense of adventure to the beach-going experience. Visitors are recommended to wear closed shoes for this journey. Upon reaching the end of the dirt road, there is a designated parking area. From there, visitors can continue the rest of the journey on foot, offering them a unique perspective of the nearby natural park, Timanfaya.
While the beach offers a variety of services, it is important to note that it is not accessible for disabled individuals. In case of emergencies, the nearest hospital is Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa, situated in Arrecife. Despite its isolation, the beach is not void of human impact. Visitors may find pieces of plastic in the sand, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of preserving these natural spaces.
