Plage de la Perroche is a family-friendly, sandy beach located in Dolus-d'Oléron, on the southwest side of the Île d'Oléron in the Charente Maritime region of France. It is known for its natural beauty, with a landscape characterized by stones and an abundance of algae. Despite its small size, it is frequented by sports enthusiasts, particularly surf and windsurf enthusiasts, due to the large and powerful waves. However, visitors are advised to exercise caution during high tide when these waves can completely cover parts of the beach.
The beach is suitable for a variety of activities including swimming, walking, and crab fishing. There's also a mooring area and a sailing school. However, it's important to note that the beach is not supervised outside of the peak season. For those who prefer land-based activities, the beach also provides a picturesque view of the sea, making it an ideal place for leisurely walks.
Plage de la Perroche offers a range of amenities including picnic areas, toilets, a car park, and bicycle parking. There is also a shuttle bus service for easy transportation. However, to maintain the cleanliness and serenity of the beach, dogs and other animals are not allowed on the beach from June 15th to September 15th, between 9:00 am and 8:30 pm.
The beach is accessible from the Potinière port by following the Matha road and then the Perroche road. There is a parking lot on the right side of the road that provides direct access to the beach. Despite its popularity and the array of activities it offers, the beach tends to get crowded, with visitors often setting up their towels within close proximity of each other.
