Playa de las Gaviotas

Playa de las Gaviotas is a picturesque beach nestled near the Mar Menor in Murcia, Spain. This sun-kissed destination is located on La Manga, a sandy strip that provides breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. With an impressive length of approximately 14 kilometers and a thickness that varies from 150 meters to extending up to a kilometer in some parts, Playa de las Gaviotas is a generous stretch of sandy shore.

The landscape of Playa de las Gaviotas is marked by sandy dunes. However, the natural beauty of these dunes has been partially compromised due to the construction of high-rise buildings and villas in close proximity to the coast, some as near as 40 meters. Despite the loss of some natural dune areas, the beach continues to be a magnet for tourists, especially during the summer season when it witnesses a significant surge in visitors.

Reaching Playa de las Gaviotas can prove to be a bit challenging, particularly during the peak summer season when long queues of vehicles are a common sight. However, those who prefer a less crowded beach experience can visit during off-peak months like October.

In terms of amenities, Playa de las Gaviotas offers a relatively limited range. There are no public showers or footbaths available for beachgoers. These facilities are seemingly exclusive to the residents of the nearby Urbanización Villa Morena. Moreover, the beach lacks regular cleaning services, leading to complaints about the presence of algae and the condition of the sand. Despite these shortcomings, the beach's natural appeal and its close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea continue to draw visitors to its shores.
