Playa Los Charcos III, also known as Playa de Los Charcos, is a picturesque beach located in El Cotillo, Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is a series of three interconnected beaches that cover a total stretch of over 500 meters with a maximum width of 70 meters. The beach is known for its unique composition of white sand and gravel, and is situated near the Faro del Cotillo lighthouse.
One of the most distinguishing features of Playa Los Charcos III are the small coves separated by natural stone walls. These formations result in the creation of crystal clear water pools, adding to the scenic charm of the beach. The contrast between the azure blue waters, black rock, and white sand is a sight to behold, attracting many visitors. Despite its popularity, the beach is not typically crowded, even during the peak season in August, offering a tranquil and serene atmosphere.
Playa Los Charcos III is renowned for its calm waters, although it can be windy at times. It is a preferred location for nudists and is also a popular spot for beginners in water sports such as kitesurfing. The beach is also suitable for snorkeling, thanks to its clear waters and the abundant marine life in the area. However, visitors are advised to be prepared with their own food and water supplies as there are no amenities available at the beach.
The surrounding area of the beach is largely arid with sparse vegetation. The beach is part of a hiking route that starts at Faro del Tostón and passes through Los Lagos and El Cotillo. The hike is easy and offers picturesque views of the coast and forming dunes.
There is a parking area available near the beach which visitors can reach by taking the road from Cotillo to Faro del Tostón. About 400 meters before reaching the lighthouse, there is a right turn onto a dirt road that leads to the parking area. From the parking area, visitors can easily walk to the beach.
