Markgrafenheide Strand, situated in the Ostseebad Markgrafenheide region within the Rostocker Heide area, is a stunning beach along the Baltic Sea. It is recognized for its pristine waters and fine, white sand, which is largely devoid of stones, thereby offering an ideal setting for coastal walks or sea bathing. The beach is the longest among the Rostocker Seebäder, stretching over 5 kilometers up to Naturstrand Rosenort.
This beach is enveloped by the Baltic Sea on one side and the forests of Rostocker Heide on the other, providing visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and unwind. The shallow waters around the beach make it particularly suitable for families with children. The beach is well-maintained and clean, and despite its popularity, it is spacious enough to accommodate a large number of visitors without seeming too crowded.
Markgrafenheide Strand is divided into two areas to cater to different preferences: a textile area and a nudist area. However, visitors should be mindful of the mosquitoes, which can sometimes be quite prevalent.
In terms of amenities, the beach offers numerous activities for active holidaymakers, including a climbing forest, beach volleyball, pedal boating, surfing and sailing schools, rowing, and cycling tours through Rostocker Heide. There are also toilets available at a restaurant for a fee, a small food truck, and an ice cream vendor who frequents the beach.
For dining, Markgrafenheide has a variety of options that cater to different tastes and budgets. Visitors can also find an array of accommodation options, such as hotels, vacation rentals, and guesthouses.
The beach is accessible by car via the A19 highway or by train to Rostock/HBF, followed by the S-Bahn and bus to Markgrafenheide. There is also a ferry service operating between Warnemünde and Hohe Düne throughout the day.
From May to September, a tourist tax is levied in Markgrafenheide, the proceeds of which are used for the upkeep of the beach promenade, hiking trails, and other tourist facilities. It also helps fund cultural activities. The prices for the tourist tax vary depending on the visitor's age and status.
For information, maps, event tickets, souvenirs, and travel literature, visitors can go to the Tourist-Information Markgrafenheide. The tourist office also offers an info phone and email for inquiries.
