Matalascañas Beach

Matalascañas Beach, situated in Almonte, Andalucía, in southern Spain, is recognized for its popularity with naturists and its proximity to the village of El Rocio, a significant pilgrimage site. The beach, which is the closest to the center of Matalascañas, is frequented by both locals and tourists. The beach is characterized by soft sand and an abundance of seashells, enhancing its natural appeal. An iconic feature of Matalascañas Beach is the historical remains of La Torre de la Higuera, a beacon tower from the 16th century. The tower, now in ruins, was once part of an early warning system during the era of Barbary pirates' attacks and was damaged by a tsunami following the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. Matalascañas Beach extends over a 4km-long promenade called the "paseo marítimo," which is lined with fish restaurants and bars that provide a panoramic view of the beach. The beachfront area also offers a variety of food and drink options. The beach is equipped with excellent facilities, including lifeguards, showers, and rental services for parasols and deckchairs. Its high standards of facilities and cleanliness have earned it the Blue Flag award from the European Union. There are also beach bars and kiosks available for visitors' convenience. A section of Matalascañas Beach is designated for nudists. Despite its popularity, Matalascañas Beach is not typically crowded, especially during the off-peak season in October, offering a tranquil beach experience. It is easily accessible for day trips from nearby Seville, adding to its accessibility for both locals and tourists.
