Ngọc Vừng Beach, also known as Ngọc Vừng Island, is a picturesque beach located in the southeast of the Vân Đồn district, Quảng Ninh province in Vietnam. The beach is part of the Hải Vân archipelago and covers an area of over 40km². The island is home to many small and large islands and limestone mountains. The largest island in this area is Ngọc Vừng Island, which has a population of approximately 1000 people, encompassing 6 ethnic groups.
The island gets its name from a rare precious pearl species that emits a luminous glow in the dark, creating a sparkling sky. It has a rich history, dating back 3,500 to 5,000 years, and was a significant location for defense during the feudal dynasties of Vietnam. Many historical structures were built on the island during different periods, making it a place of significant historical and cultural importance.
Ngọc Vừng Beach is known for its beautiful natural landscape, including a smooth white sandy beach stretching nearly 3km, located in the southern part of the commune, facing the East Sea. The beach is surrounded by a vast fishing ground teeming with potential for aquaculture and fishing. Along with this, the island is home to many undeveloped rocky islands, adding to its natural beauty.
The beach is less crowded compared to other tourist hotspots, offering a more tranquil environment. It is off the typical tourist path, providing a more authentic Vietnamese experience. However, it is important to note that the beach lacks entertainment services and some visitors have expressed concerns about cleanliness.
The main economic strength of the commune lies in the seafood industry, with 68% of households engaged in fishing and aquaculture. The majority of the population utilizes the water surface and rocky shores to cultivate and harvest high-value aquatic products such as snails, fish, clams, and oysters.
Despite its remote location, the beach offers accommodation options for overnight stays, including family homes and hotels. The beach is known for its pristine and quiet environment, making it an ideal destination for short holidays. Visitors have reported feeling safe while traveling to and staying in the area.
