Playa Nueva Umbría is a secluded beach located in the town of Lepe, in the province of Huelva, Spain. Known for its untouched natural beauty, the beach is part of the Natural Park of Marismas del Río Piedras and Flecha de El Rompido. Visitors can expect to see a pristine landscape of fine golden sand, small dunes adorned with vegetation, and moderate waves. This beach stretches for approximately 12 kilometers and has a width of about 50 meters, providing ample space for visitors to enjoy without feeling crowded.
One of the unique features of Playa Nueva Umbría is that it is officially recognized as a nudist beach. This designation, which was established in 2010, attracts naturists from around the region who appreciate the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The central area of the beach is particularly popular among nudists.
The beach is also renowned for its rich biodiversity. Visitors can expect to see various bird species such as the black-winged stilt, cormorant, seagull, stone-curlew, and common sandpiper. Even the elusive chameleon has been spotted here.
Unlike many other beaches, Playa Nueva Umbría does not offer typical amenities like bars, ice cream shops, or rental services for beach chairs and umbrellas. Instead, visitors are encouraged to bring their own supplies such as umbrellas, sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and food. The absence of such facilities contributes to the untouched and tranquil atmosphere of the beach.
The beach is accessible by foot from La Antilla or by boat from El Rompido. Visitors who choose to drive to the beach can find parking close to the beach, although access can be difficult and may require some walking. It's also advisable for visitors to be mindful of their belongings, as there have been reports of car windows being smashed.
Snorkeling is a popular activity at Playa Nueva Umbría, thanks to the clear water and the opportunity to see fish near the shore. The beach is also an excellent spot for shell collectors due to the abundance of shells scattered around. Despite the tranquility, visitors are advised to be aware of their surroundings, as there have been sightings of jellyfish along the beach.
