Oeschinen Lake

Oeschinen Lake is a mountain lake situated above Kandersteg, Switzerland. The lake, located at an altitude of 1,578 meters above sea level, is fed by glacial brooks from the neighboring peaks of Blüemlisalp, Oeschinenhorn, Fründenhorn, and Doldenhorn. It is known for its turquoise alpine water and rich mountain flora, which includes orchids, gentian, and edelweiss. The surrounding area is home to various wild animals and herds of sheep and cows that graze on the Alps.

The lake is a popular destination among nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for swimming, hiking, rowing, and nature observation. During the summer, the water temperature can reach up to 20 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for swimming. In addition to this, rowboats are available for hire, allowing visitors to explore the lake and its hidden waterfall. A summer toboggan run and a rollercoaster also provide entertainment for visitors.

Visitors can reach the lake by taking a gondola train from Kandersteg, followed by a half-hour walk through pastures and pine forests. Parking is available near the lift that provides access to the lake. Due to the popularity of the location, it is recommended to arrive early for the first lift.

Despite its relatively small size, Oeschinen Lake attracts a large number of visitors, often resulting in a crowded atmosphere. However, the lake also offers ample space for relaxation and picnicking, with several benches and sitting areas around the lake. In winter, activities such as ice fishing and tobogganing are popular among visitors.
