The area on the bluff is named Cave Landing due to nearby sea caves, and there are trails that start at the main parking area and wind around the bluff. The quickest way to reach Pirate's Cove is from the main parking area at the end of Cave Landing Road.

The primary cave is a tunnel through the rock that leads to a beautiful viewpoint of the ocean and San Luis Bay. The name Pirate's Cove is derived from its past as a site for smuggling liquor.
