Platja de Can Comes, situated in the town of Castelló d'Empúries in the region of Alt Empordà, is a serene and natural beach. Stretching 3,900 meters, it extends from the mouth of the Muga river to the vicinity of the Nàutic Almatà campsite near the Fluvià river's mouth. The beach is nestled within the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, a nature reserve with the highest level of protection. The beach's untouched landscape is a haven for various species that nest in its dunes and hollows, requiring visitors to be mindful not to disturb them.
The beach is characterized by its fine, golden sand, which is comfortable for barefoot walks. The tranquil ambiance of the beach is complemented by views of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Reserve. It is situated between two rivers, the Muga to the north and the Fluvià to the south, with moderate waves and strong winds that create warm summer temperatures. The beach's natural landscape is undisturbed by human infrastructure and is surrounded solely by vegetation. The lagoons and dunes in the area add to the beach's unique environment, attracting flocks of birds and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Despite its natural beauty, Platja de Can Comes offers no amenities, and the area has low occupancy. However, there are campsites scattered along the beach for those wishing to stay overnight. Access to the beach is regulated through the Can Comas track, and it can also be reached on foot from both ends. During certain times of the year, like from April 1 to June 30, access to the beach is restricted. When accessible, a pleasant 10-minute walk along the path adjacent to the Nautic Almata campsite will lead you to the beach.
