Platja de Ribes Roges is an urban beach located in the city of Vilanova i la GeltrĂș, Barcelona. It is named after the Ribes Roges garden city which was built in the early 20th century. The beach is situated in a residential area along the Ribes Roges promenade and is bordered by a marina on the northern end. A breakwater separates it from the southern end.
The beach is known for its fine, golden sand and gentle slope. It stretches approximately 1,200 meters in length and 170 meters in width. The beach's shallow waters and formation of sandbanks make it particularly suitable for families with small children, as it is necessary to go far from the shore to find deeper water.
Platja de Ribes Roges offers a range of amenities for visitors. During the summer season, it provides accessible walkways for people with reduced mobility or baby strollers at all entrances. There are rental services for hammocks, sunshades, and various types of water skates. The beach also offers showers and foot washers at all entrances, public toilets, beach bars with terraces, and surveillance and lifeguard services. For sports enthusiasts, there are beach volleyball, beach football/handball, and beach basketball courts, as well as a fitness circuit. Boat rentals and docking facilities are available, along with sailing schools. The beach also has landscaped areas with trees, plants, and palm trees, and a weekly beach cleaning service is provided, even during the winter season.
The beach can be accessed from any point in the city, either on foot, by public transport (urban bus), or by private vehicle. There is regulated parking available (blue zone), but it can be challenging to find a spot due to limited spaces.
Due to its proximity to the urban center, Platja de Ribes Roges tends to be crowded, especially during the summer holidays. Despite its popularity, the beach's expansive and spacious layout allows for a less crowded experience, even during peak times. Visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot.
