Plage du Portuais is a serene beach located in the town of Erquy, situated in the CĂŽtes-d'Armor department of the region of Brittany, France. It is a part of the wild beaches of Cap d'Erquy and is celebrated for its untouched natural surroundings. The beach is nestled amidst a landscape of pine trees, ferns, heather, and dunes, and its fine, white sand is occasionally adorned with seaweed. The beach is less frequented, offering visitors a peaceful retreat, complemented by the breathtaking view of the Brittany region.
The accessibility to the beach is via a few small paths or the GR34, a well-known hiking trail in Brittany. From the center of Erquy, one can reach the beach by taking the rue des plages sauvages, then avenue LĂ©on Hamonet, and finally the rue de la Plaine Garenne. The access path to the beach is on the right and requires a 650-meter walk. However, it is challenging to reach the beach by walking along the coast due to the rocky barriers on both sides.
Plage du Portuais is equipped with a small parking area located nearby, which includes toilet facilities for the convenience of the visitors. However, visitors would need to walk a bit from the parking area to reach the beach. The beach is also sheltered, providing a safe and comfortable environment for visitors. Wooden steps and a long staircase lead down to the beach, providing easy access and a unique workout opportunity.
Despite its natural beauty and amenities, Plage du Portuais does not feature a lifeguard station. Visitors to the beach are expected to exercise caution and maintain discipline, especially since the dune on the beach is not fenced. The beach is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts, including swimmers, sunbathers, surfers, and sailors, who can enjoy the crystal clear waters in solitude.
