It is a much-preferred destination over Lands End, which is visible from the cove. The cove is surrounded by remnants of the area's tin mining history, including buildings, ruins, and antiquities. Additionally, hidden Iron Age antiquities can be found for those interested in exploring.
The natural characteristics of Priest Cove include an abundance of rocks to explore and a sheltered cove perfect for swimming. At low tide, a rock pool emerges, providing an ideal wild swimming experience. The area is also rich in wildlife, with frequent sightings of grey seals, wild rabbits, kestrels, buzzards, wagtails, and numerous other beasts and birds. However, the rocky terrain can be uncomfortable and slippery underfoot, so suitable footwear is recommended for swimming. The cove is not suitable for pushchairs, those with limited mobility, or anyone who struggles with steep descents and ascents.
Amenities at Priest Cove include a small cafe serving drinks and a very clean toilet facility. The cove also features a small sea pool, which is great for a cool dip on a sunny day or even a cold swim dip on a frosty winter's day. Visitors are advised to bring a picnic and a snorkelling mask to fully enjoy their visit.
Parking is available at a National Trust car park, and visitors are encouraged to bring change to support this good cause. The car park is conveniently located near the cafe and toilet facilities.
To reach Priest Cove, one can walk from St Just square across public footpaths, a journey that takes approximately 25 minutes and offers stunning scenery and friendly locals. It's also possible to drive to the location, with parking available at the National Trust car park.
Despite its popularity, Priest Cove maintains a peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect photographic opportunity. However, visitors are reminded to respect the 'no dogs' signs and to check the Cornwall council website for times to take their dogs. They are also advised to check tide times before their visit.
