Praia de São Roque

Praia de São Roque is a well-maintained and clean beach located in close proximity to Ponta Delgada. It is characterized by its black sand, which can get very hot, making it advisable for visitors to bring sandals. The beach is also known for its occasional jellyfish sightings, and the strong sun, especially when there are no clouds, necessitates the use of sun protection. Despite being overshadowed by larger, more popular beaches, Praia de São Roque is preferred by those who enjoy less crowded locations. It is easily accessible by foot from Ponta Delgada, making it a favorite among locals. The beach is equipped with showers and a small shaded area under trees, providing some relief from the sun. However, visitors should note that the beach does not have a restaurant on-site, although there are plenty nearby and along the way to the beach. One of the challenges visitors might face is parking, as it is located right on the main road in the town and can be complicated. Despite this, the beach usually has a lifeguard on duty, adding an extra layer of safety for swimmers.
