Spiegelsee

Spiegelsee, also known as mittlerer Gasslsee, is a renowned mountain lake nestled between 1,700 and 1,900 meters above sea level in the Schladming-Dachstein region. Not only is it a favored destination for hikers and photographers, but it also offers a stunning reflection of the southern walls of the Dachstein mountain range, especially in windless conditions. From mid-June onwards, the area surrounding the lake becomes particularly vibrant and colorful due to the blooming season of alpine roses.

The lake, while providing a beautiful setting for a swim during the warm summer months, is relatively shallow and forms part of a delicate ecosystem. Hence, visitors are urged not to swim in it, both to preserve the environment and to respect other nature enthusiasts. During the fall, the lake offers a picturesque view of the Dachstein and Bischofsmütze mountains.

The lake can be accessed via a well-developed hiking trail, with alternative routes also being available. The hike to reach Spiegelsee may take anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the chosen trail. One popular route is the hiking round tour, which, when taken on the right side of the mountain, offers breathtaking views of Dachstein.

The nearest parking options for visitors are available at Reiteralm Hütte or Eiskarhütte. Additionally, a gondola lift, the Preunegg-Jet, provides access to the lake. Visitors can also avail the services of a hiking bus from Ramsau am Dachstein to the gondola lift.
