Playa de Vigocho is a serene and tranquil beach located in the municipality of Pájara on the island of Fuerteventura. Known for its natural beauty, the beach is situated at the mouth of the Vigocho ravine and stretches over a length of 200 meters. The beach is characterized by its fine sand, although it is noted that the sandy surface may be covered by the tide, prompting visitors to bring sandals for comfort.
One of the unique features of the beach is its surrounding cliffs that not only provide a sense of security but also act as a natural windbreak, making it an ideal location for those seeking a peaceful day at the beach. However, the sea at Playa de Vigocho can be rough and swimming is recommended to be done cautiously and strictly near the shore.
Adding to the beach's natural charm is a small cave located on the northern cliff, formed by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The geological makeup of the area is complex, featuring a mix of volcanic rocks and layered beach sediments. Visitors are often rewarded with a beautiful view, especially during sunset.
Playa de Vigocho is accessible by car, with the final 7 km of the journey being a gravel road, best suited for off-road vehicles. For those who prefer to walk, the beach can also be reached on foot. Despite the slightly challenging access, the beach is not typically crowded, offering visitors a serene and quiet atmosphere. Parking is available nearby, with the gravel road leading directly to the beach.
Please note that the beach's pristine condition is occasionally disrupted by debris carried by the Barranco de Vigocho during periods of heavy rainfall. An interesting sight near the beach is the remnants of the SS America, visible just a few dozen yards off the shore.
